Four Strip Twist quilts done for Christmas gifts.

Four Strip Twist quilts done for Christmas gifts. The Grand daughters get a quilt for each birthday. But I have not done the significant others in their families. Four quilts to make in less than 2 weeks. (that is when the idea hit me).
I did it!!!
Well...the black/red/white one (that I finished minutes ago) still needs to be quilted but I can knock that out in one day.

I made two green quilts. I made 20 blocks each. The quilts finished at 60 X 76.

I only made one blue one. It also is 60 X 76.
These three quilts were made with 2 1/2" strips per Bonnie's pattern.

This black/white/red quilt was made with 2" strips and I made 24 blocks. I also controlled the fabrics. Meaning I used only four fabrics.

I finally used up this white RocLon muslin. 50 yards!!!
Where did they all go?
I have not used white -white in any quilts for eons.
I am thinking I must have used this for many backings in the very beginning of my quilting journey.

Bess is so hard to get a photo of. She is so dark that she blends into everywhere she lands. I lucked out today she was sitting in the sunshine.

Lucky Lucy is getting bigger every day. And taking more naps. So I am able to run the sewing machine a bit longer before she comes to "help" me.

I am also cranking out these baby afghans. 30" square. Made from Bernat Baby Sport yarns. No homes for these yet as the next great grand baby is another boy.

Baby and Bess two versions of tortie cats

Here is a picture of my 20#plus Baby. Honest, when she was young she was so small! It was all the bottle feeding I am sure. She was really too young to leave her feral Momma...my daughter caught her in a wood pile when her Momma was moving the kittens. She is colored like the Momma but Momma had long fur like Bess. You have to get ferals young to really tame them. She is beyond tame. She has a fetish for chewing rubber (baby bottles) edges of cardboard boxes, my pages of patterns, any spool of thread left out, stray strings on fabric and plastic of any kind from bags to containers.
Her fur is real short and very thick. She has little pink toes and a lovely tiny meow. She loves to ride on my shoulder. And at times attempts to leap to my shoulder with less than perfect results. She is not agile as when she was little. She has knocked me over and often rakes me with her nails by accident. I try to anticipate her leaps...she has a lots of signals. Love her to death!
Bess came from the same feral cat colony 2 years later. Hubby caught her when she was 5 months old. She tamed down to a point. We cannot carry her. She freaks out. But she loves to lay on our laps! At the vet's she is still feral...an event to be sure. She is small and long furred like the feral Momma. She and Baby have the same markings but in reverse! You can see the pink toes in front are left on Baby and right on Bess. And Bess weighs a demure 6#'s.
Sadly or not the feral cat colony is now gone. No more to rescue. I have 5 indoor only cats. Guess that is enough for loving!

Eyes on me

Check out this weird sunlight reflection from my back window onto Jim's man shed. Doesn't it look like an eye??? It did not come from the camera flash. I saw it as I was walking into the kitchen. It did not last very long. I wonder what made it. I will have to check tomorrow to see if "my eye" returns.
Bess posed for me today. She seems anxious. MaggieMae came home late yesterday after an overnight stay at the vets for spaying. MaggieMae is being so quiet and the rest of the cats seem concerned. There was no hissing when she returned. Sometimes kitties do not like the scents on a kitty who has visited the vet.

Batik Virginia Bound progress report

I am back. I have been so very busy. On National Quilting Day I went to hear and see Kaye England at the 19th annual Gathering of Quilters. I lucked out as it was in Fort Wayne this year. Only a 30 minute drive from home!

The Masonic quilt has been picked up.

I taught some quilting to a very fine woman I met on the internet. She is coming to me for lessons. She is a fast learner and is doing great. You know how hard it is at the beginning when you need to buy the right tools to do the best job. I am lending her what she needs until she gets her own gear. It is very satisfying to show someone what you love to do!

I have a bolt of this fabric from years ago. It is called Willow Mews by RJR fabrics. I made a serious dent in the bolt making the backing for the Batik Virginia Bound. Quilt's finish measurements are 144X120. I am making a serious dent in my stash by using my precious fabrics finally. And this one is for me. I have the first quilt I ever made on my bed. Heck! I zigzagged the binding on. I did not know what I was doing. And it is tied not quilted. I cannot believe it has lasted 20 years.
Here is my precious Baby..all 20#'s of her. She is the best kitty except for being shy when there is a visitor in the house.

And Macy is all her glory. She rules the bed. She chases any kitties off at the beginning of the night. Then as she falls asleep the rest of the pack creeps in.

My Pearl Piwacket. She is still bent about MaggieMae coming to live with us. We are working with her to give her extra attention. It seems to be helping.

And of course MaggieMae. She helped me cut sew and press the backing this morning. Yes...she was loads of help. I could not find Bess to get a picture. The kitties have some great hiding spots.
Gotta go...I am pinning the backing into the frame. But I wanted to post as I have been a quiet lady this last week.

four cats on my bed

So rare for my kitties to hang out together. I think they were waiting for me to get into bed and read for awhile.

Macy is the one in front on the left. She is an Oriental Shorthair w/seal tortie points.

Next to her on the front right is Bess. She is a rescue and is a half sister to Baby.

Baby is the cat on the left rear. She must weigh 20#'s. She is very mellow. I bottle fed her.

MaggieMay is the one nearest the pillow. She is a Himmy w/tortie points. She looks big but it is all fur. She is so light and fluffy.

Missing from the picture is Pearl. She is shy.
