Bad news turns into good news

I wanted to let all of you know that my dear Hubby is doing fine.

The bad news is that he had to have his entire left kidney removed due to a large tumor.

The good news is that the pathology has come back and all the lymph nodes and surrounding organs are cancer free.

I slept up there for two nights. Let me tell you that a recliner is not a bed and my back and neck are killing me.

Yet we are both so grateful that we are home today and that he did very well with the surgery. Many people live with only one kidney. And there will be no chemo or radiation to go though.

It feels so great to just be home again....

Hugs... Sounds so frightening... pamper both him and you - you both need to recover... wrap up in lots of snuggy quilts until you feel strong again...

Good news indeed! Now you can get busy enjoying your holiday season!

I'm sorry to hear that your DH lost a kidney, but happy to hear he won't be having chemo or radiation. Both of those treatments are so hard on the body and cause untold misery in the process. I hope your DH will be fine from here on out.

Best wishes to your husband. Sounds like those were the best test results and now he can concentrate on a full recovery. Let him snuggle under a quilt or two and 'feel' the love :)

I'm so happy to hear that is home and doing so well! Hospitals are hard -- on the patient and the patient's spouse. Sending hugs and wishes for a complete recovery for your husband.

What a fright you must have had. Glad to hear that the reports were all positive. Glad it was the kidney and not something else that couldn't be taken out. Hope you find some time to catch up on sleep again soon.

OH yes, another one with good news. We got the same good news in January after my husband had colon cancer surgery at the age of 43.

My brother was born with only one kidney. We didn't even know it until he was about 9 years old and he went on to live a long and successful life.

Oh my.....so sorry to hear about the surgery but thrilled there is no cancer. Two of my brothers had kidney cancer and it was a long hard battle for them both. I hope dear husband (and expert quilt adviser) heals quickly.

Happy Sewing and continued good health to you both

Oh Subee I'm so sorry, but so glad that the news is good. What a stress! Yup, one kidney working is enough. My old vet (no pets anymore) had both kidneys replaced via transplant and she's still doing wonderfully ten years later. It's amazing what good docs can do these days.

I am happy for you and your husband. 2 years ago my DH had a 6.6 lb cancerous tumor, which was successfully removed - no chemo or radiation either! I am so thankful! I will say though - it has slowed him down a lot - this was a big adjustment for the both of us. People now forget all about him having had cancer, but I still see various side effects every day. Still, these side effects are nothing compared with the alternatives so we have simply adjusted our expectations of what he can/cannot do. Recovery does take time, that is for sure! Take care! Evelyn
