Orca Bay Mystery SOLVED!

I see my error...I started with a dark star not a light star. DH pointed it out. Geezzz...he is so tall he can adjust my design wall with ease. But he tends to drop blocks behind the desk...not good!

Nothing is sewn together yet.
I just slapped some up onto the design wall to see if I get the same effect as Our Bonnie did.
I am not sure which way my tiny blue strings are supposed to be.

So they are every which way right now.

It is a perfect day for sewing.
We are under a Winter Storm Watch but are only getting some light snow right now.

I have 16 bean soup simmering.
This is another one of those "comfort" foods.
It feeds the sense of smell and taste!

I can see that I am going to be climbing up and down the ladder for a good long while.

But that is OK. The finished quilt will be soooooo worth it!

My small container of Dogears was so full that all the little ears were bouncing out yesterday.
So I had to dump it into the larger container...
Starting over....New Year...new Dogears.

Your Orca Bay is looking good! I have not kept up, so I printed all the steps last night, and will start 'really' getting it done now. It's great to see all the different possibilities with the color changes in blogland. I could do this same quilt in so many different colorways. Hmmmmmm!

Beautiful Subee. All the blue strings should point towards the white stars. Then you'll be perfect.

Your Orka Bay looks good. Nice design wall, I tend to lay out on the floor. I used to keep the dog ears too. I know what you mean by the color changing in the jar. We are having snow here, also. I'm hoping for just a little. We will get what we get. GMTA, we had the bean soup yesterday. Yum!

It looks like the blue stripes point from one white star to the other. There sure are lots of pieces in this mystery. I admire your tenacity to stick with it. I want to participate in one of her mysteries, but I need to get my stash of scraps in better shape. I didn't want to go out and buy more. Next time around, I'm in.

Your Orca is soooo nice! I really like your quiet blues set with the vibrant reds. Very Pretty!

Absolutely gorgeous!!!

That is alot of dog ears!!! Have you ever considered using them as quilter's confetti in a greeting card to a fellow quilter for fun? Some could easily get annoyed while others will chuckle.

Your Orca Bay looks fantastic ! Unfortunely mine doesn't seem to have contrast in the stars, so I'm stopping for the moment.

Your blocks look fabulous...love it!

Your quilt is beautiful! Congratulations on getting it done! Your blue stripes are laid out a bit differently from Bonnies; that's an easy adjustment. It is quite an accomplishment to finish this quilt; I hope to do so someday!

It's Beautiful!!! I can't wait until mine gets there. I am stuck on step 4 - the Holidays kinda put me behind. Soon .... I will get there. How is your second one looking?

You might want to double check your flying geese units in the bottom right corner. If you have the broad red end closest to your dark stars (points toward your lighter stars), it looks like they're floating on a big red block.

Really wonderful. You have done such a good job with this.

Your blue string blocks should point to your white Ohio stars, then it creates a "highway" criss cross fashion across the entire quilt.

Orca Bay looks beautiful! I love this quilt--wish I had made it, but I rarely get to sew during the holidays.
Have you seen those huge mason jars that hold around a half gallon--or maybe even a gallon? That is what I think you need for your dog ears! : )

Looking good!
16 bean soup ? I didn't think there were so many beans.

when I photographed my finished quilt, I hung it upside down on the lattice wall. But it is really the same ----I turned the graphics upside down on the blog post last night because I can't rephotograph the quilt from texas --- it is right, you just flip the quilt around after you finish sewing it! Look at my full quilt again, and watch the directions of your blue string blocks....

Hey not to worry that you started with dark stars...If you look at the computer rendering of the quilt, the top starts with dark stars and ends with light. The picture of the actual quilt starts with light and ends with dark. It's not a "symmetrical" quilt.

I see Bonnie sent you a note about placing the blue strings. I like to think of them as sun rays coming off the light block( sunny). so if I lay my light block out to be pieced with the 4 red strings pointing in( in geese formation) and the 4 blue string radiating out then the blocks have come together much easier for me. Like you I don't like rows because they are hard to handle, but I did the first 4 rows before I changed to the block layout instead.....much easier to concentrate on too.

Happy Sewing

Oh my, I was going to point out one of your blue strings going the wrong way, but then read through all the suggestions, and got all mixed up.

How 'bout, "Be sure to check your units." 8-))) And you might want them that way, but I'm so mixed up now, I can't think which way is "right"! LOL Hey, I'm gettin' old! LOL

BTW, it's looking very good! and just how tall aren't you?
